Effect of tweaking speaker placement

I've been given advice about placing my speakers at equal distances from the back wall to within a fraction of an inch.

Presumably, the same would apply to placing speakers an equal distance from the listener, again each speaker matching to within a fraction of an inch.

At the same time, as Audiolense is designed to compensate for minor speaker placement discrepancies, among other room related issues, using a properly designed filter, how much does such precise speaker placement matter?

I've no axe to grind here. I'm completely open to any informed opinions I receive.

Thanks in advance for your input.

You should spend as much time as possible with speaker placement - it costs nothing, except time, but can be significant.

You might have to do multiple iterations of speaker placement + measurement.

Measurement can be with Audiolense or even REW if it is faster - maybe pink noise.

Especially looking for speaker positions for best bass performance

Hi Joel,

While it is probably better to have a 100% symmetric speaker placement, Audiolense negotiates most of such differences very well. So you should try and judtge for yourself. I have been using asymmetric speaker placement for years ... or actually asymmetric listening position. But the stereo image is spot on as far as I can tell nevertheless. So I wouldn't loose any sleep over asymmetric speaker placement if it was impractical to obtain.

Yes, back wall... And side walls if possible... I don't know enough about Audiolense... If using REW you can even time aline...
