Hi All,

Please excuse some novice questions to follow:

1. Would I be right that M23R will work with REW?
2. Would I be right that I will be able to import it's ECF file to REW?
3. As it is XLR mic - what other gear I would need to interface it to a laptop / PC (I assume mic amp, but anything else)?
4. Could you recommend me some extra gear that I would need to make it work that would not hinder mic's performance but also would not break the bank?

MIC in question: https://earthworksaudio.com/measurement-microphones/m23r/

Thanks

Yes.

Is ECF the mic calibration file? If so, yes.

3. As it is XLR mic - what other gear I would need to interface it to a laptop / PC (I assume mic amp, but anything else)?
A two channel audio interface for loopback timing reference and that will also provide phantom power to the mic, such as this one:

Nothing else you need, other than cables, to get the audio interface going. A mic stand is also essential for measuring.

Yes.

Would I be right that the below would be a problem with this interface:
  • Frequency Response 20-20kHz ± 0.06dB (so that would be a bit of waste for such good mic and also taking into accounts that the idea is to measure subs going to single digits?)
If so what other interface could you recommend that can go lower? Of good quality that would not break the bank?

Thank you

Frequency response should not be a problem.

There is also a soundcard calibration procedure in REW if you think you want a more accurate response.

As far as alternatives are concerned I really don’t know, but Julian Krause, who’s YouTube video I linked, has a good reputation as a reviewer and his channel has a number of audio interface reviews.

Thanks again mate for coming back to me.

It turns out I already have interface (bought few years ago 2nd hand and forgot about it :D). It is Audient ID4 (mk1) so an older unit but probably good enough. Unfortunately the linked YT channel does not have a review of it.
