Dirac Live Promises to Improve Ease of Usability with Its New App​

(Dirac Live)(August 30, 2017) Dirac Live has established itself as the most technically accurate and sought-after room correction suite available on the consumer market, with license agreements ranging from Arcam and Datasat to Emotiva and miniDSP (not to mention quite a few in between). One of its great benefits is correction of both the frequency response and impulse response of a system’s loudspeakers. The technology, however, can be somewhat difficult to use for the average enthusiast. Next week, at CEDIA 2017, Dirac is unveiling a solution to help ease the burden and improve usability by tapping an app environment for iOS and Android devices.

The new Mobile Dirac Live app is intended for manufacturers of “lite” AV Receivers, which means gear that’s typically sold direct-to-consumer as opposed to custom install. The intention is to allow users to quickly and easily correct in-room audio issues.

“Mobile Dirac Live is our response to the growing demand from our partners who manufacture both high-end, integrator-installed AVR products and more entry-level products purchased and installed directly by end-users,” said Niklas Thorin, Dirac’s General Manager of High Performance Audio. “Mobile Dirac Live now provides our manufacturer partners with the ability to offer all of their customers, regardless of their system’s sophistication or complexity, a way to optimize their home theater set-up by correcting for acoustical abnormalities and colorations.”

According to Dirac, Mobile Dirac Live will be compatible with most AVRs outfitted with Dirac Live audio filters and algorithms. Dirac says properly implemented systems can “improve the depth, positioning, and distinction of individual voices and instruments.” It does this using multiple measurements and mixed phase correction, for a natural and realistic sound.

Dirac says a “Wizard Assistant” will be present on the app to guide users with a step-by-step calibration workflow, providing instruction and feedback to app users throughout the calibration process.

Dirac’s entire system will be on full display at CEDIA 2017, and AV NIRVANA will have an opportunity experience a hands-on demo experience. Stay tuned for more information!

I can't speak for every "consumer grade" manufacturer, but at least one has indicated to me that the cost of licensing a solution such as Dirac or Audyssey outweighs the overall benefit seen in sales. The truth is that only a small segment of buyers desires a technically accurate room correction system. I can't remember specifics of the conversation, but most customers simply don't care.

Some of the more expensive (higher-end) brands probably cater to an audience that appreciates it more (not to mention are willing to pay more out of pocket).

Two completely different technologies. Dirac is a room correction algorithm that's used to help your speakers sound better in your specific room. Auro-3D is an immersive sound competitor to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
