(September 17, 2025) Every so often, a speaker comes along that doesn’t just play music to soothe the ears but delivers a complete feast for the eyes. Devialet’s Phantom has been that kind of product since its debut a decade ago, with a look that’s equal parts sculpture and science experiment. Now, Devialet is pushing its preferred funky design forward again with the new Phantom Ultimate collection, available in two models that balance acoustic engineering with French artistry in ways that continue to set the brand apart.
The Phantom Ultimate 108dB now stands guard as the flagship, capable of hitting frequencies as deep as 14 Hz and as high as 35 kHz, powered by 1,100 watts of amplification tucked into a form factor that still looks more like modern art than hi-fi hardware. Its sibling, the Phantom Ultimate 98dB, trims the scale but retains much of the same DNA, with 400 watts of power and extension down to 18 Hz. Both are built around Devialet’s unique co-spherical driver array, a design that has defined the Phantom series and continues to deliver a massive, wide soundstage that appears impossibly unshackled from the cabinet itself.
Part of the intrigue here isn’t just the specs, it’s the way the technology operates under the hood. Devialet’s Analog Digital Hybrid (ADH) combines Class A and Class D amplification, Speaker Active Matching (SAM) to continuously adapt the drivers in real time, and Heart Bass Implosion (HBI) for room-shaking bass from a compact chassis. Add in a new intelligent processor, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and a refreshed interface with top-mounted controls, and Phantom Ultimate looks like a serious reinvention of what was already a very forward-looking product.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Devialet launch without a touch of luxury. The new models are offered in Deep Forest and Light Pearl finishes, both with subtle metallic detailing, while the Opéra de Paris edition continues the brand’s collaboration with one of France’s cultural institutions, complete with hand-applied 22-karat gold accents. It’s not just a speaker, it’s a statement piece.
In practice, Phantom Ultimate can be used as a single speaker, in stereo, or as part of a multiroom system via AirPlay, Google Cast, and other streaming protocols. Modes for music, cinema, and podcasts can be tailored in the Devialet app, and the company says software updates will keep the platform fresh over time.
The Phantom Ultimate 98dB is available now for $1,900 ($2,400 for the Opéra edition), while the flagship Phantom Ultimate 108dB is priced at $3,800 ($4,300 in Opéra trim) and is open for pre-order through Devialet stores, premium dealers, and online.
