Cut Your HDMI Cable: DVDO Introduces Two New Wireless Solutions

(DVDO) DVDO's all-new Air 2K wireless transmitter/receiver.
(December 10,2018) Discretely installing HDMI cable runs can be a real headache, especially when you need to run a wire from one end of a finished room to another. And while some wireless solutions exist, there aren’t many affordable ones that can tackle 4K. DVDO, maker of a variety of home theater video solutions, has announced two new wireless products that provide performance over a range of 30-feet (or 100-feet in situations where there’s no interference).

The all new Air 2K and Air 4K do pretty much what their product names indicate: deliver standard HD and 4K video signals without the need for a physical HDMI Cable. The two models offer fairly different capabilities, with the Air 2K providing 1080p/60fps performance, while the Air 4K steps up to 4K video with 30 fps (fine for movie viewing). According to DVDO, wireless transmission is handled by WiHD 1.1 technology for low latency speed (minuscule lag time) with support for 3D content.

Utilizing what DVDO calls advanced radar technology, each model “scans the room and looks for the best path from the transmitter to the receiver in every frame of video - up to 60 times a second - making the system free from frequency interference.” This is unlike standard 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi solutions which rely on compression and can fall victim to frequent interference. Air offers a pathway for 3Gb/s of data transmission, including simultaneous deliver of 7.1 HD audio feeds.

While not ideal for highly complex home theater installations featuring larger Atmos, DTS:X, or Auro-3D immersive audio arrangements, Air 2K and Air 4K solutions are quite interesting for theater and media room situations that utilize smaller surround sound setups or installations purely looking for video transmission.

The Air 2K retails for $229 while the Air 4K costs $399, which is fairly reasonable considering the associated costs and time involved with cutting, repairing, and painting drywall. For more information visit DVDO on the net.

Definitely looks interesting. The Air 2K looks like a pretty good deal for standard cable or streaming to a TV. The Air 4K opens up the door to 4K flicks... it's a shame the audio specs aren't a tiny bit better. But, ultimately, you'd have to imagine most applications will have these units transferring video... perhaps video and audio to a TV/soundbar setup?

yeah, I do like the concept.. Would like to see a real world example (review) or something to see if it really works perfectly as described. :)

Very interesting! I had limited experience with Epson's wireless "e" models and found that they were somewhat limited.
