Eclipse G3 is built around a 6DLP architecture, utilizing RGB pure laser illumination to achieve a sequential contrast ratio of up to 20,000,000:1, which is approximately one hundred times beyond Rec. 2100 performance. The result is a picture that shows extreme black detail with stunning highlights, and a color gamut that covers nearly the entire Rec. 2020 palette. During the demo in SR7, when a full black frame appeared on the screen, the room plunged into complete darkness, as if the screen had vanished. In fact, calling it “video black” undersells what was achieved here. The projector can truly go to zero light output in a controlled environment, something Larry Paul, Christie’s executive director of Technology and Custom Solutions, was keen to emphasize. Blacks, colors, and overall contrast looked richer and more lifelike than anything I’ve experienced from a projector to date.
Performance is matched by durability and refinement. Eclipse G3 pushes 30,000 ANSI lumens, supports native 4K at up to 120Hz in 2D, and can deliver active 3D at 60Hz per eye. Christie rates the light engine to maintain brightness for 50,000 hours, making it not only powerful but also built for longevity. Despite its sheer heft, Christie has streamlined the form factor to make installation easier compared to earlier Eclipse generations. That may not mean you can skip a weight belt, but it’s an important nod to integrators tasked with handling a unit of this size and sophistication.
The Sound Room 7 demo also highlighted a powerful ecosystem around the projector, including StormAudio electronics, Ascendo loudspeakers, Seymour-Screen Excellence, Acoustic Smart, Panamorph, and madVR Labs. Together, they created a million-dollar-plus theater environment designed to give Eclipse G3 a stage worthy of its capabilities. The combination created an unforgettable viewing experience that left attendees buzzing, underscoring Christie’s intent to dominate the high-end projection category for both residential and commercial applications.
Christie also mounted an impressive presence across the CEDIA Expo show floor. In SR10, they partnered with Alcons Audio, utilizing a CP4425-RGB pure laser cinema projector equipped with VDR technology, which dynamically analyzes and adjusts every frame to optimize black levels and contrast. At the ASCENDO booth, Christie showcased LED solutions, including a massive MicroTiles LED wall with a 0.75mm pixel pitch and a 163-inch Core Series III UHD LED display. Attendees also had a chance to view static samples of Christie’s other laser projectors, ranging from the compact Inspire Series 4K860-iS to the powerful M 4K25-RGB.
The Eclipse G3 is a bold statement from Christie, raising the bar for HDR performance and redefining what is possible in projection. If you’d like to learn more or find a dealer, visit Christie’s website at www.christiedigital.com.
