This totally flew under my radar, but one of the best mid-priced screen options in the industry shuttered in January!

To be honest I'm surprised they lasted that long. They were a bit more pricey than the Elite and Vapex screens IIRC. They made a good product though. Just couldn't compete with the cheaper alternatives.

I really wouldn't doubt if the high end companies that didn't diversify start to shutter as well. Now I'm going to have to go and search and see if those Black Diamond screens are still a fad!

I have a Carada screen... it's been good. I don't have any complaints.

Mech... are there any other comparable good quality (but not ridiculously expensive) fixed screen manufacturers that make custom sizes?

I don't think so. Is Jamestown still around?

Yep Jamestown is still around and offering custom sizes. They used to have a turnaround issue way back when though. And they never responded to any of my inquiries.

Are their screens quality? Is it really worth stepping up into the super expensive realm of Stewart, etc?

Are their screens quality?

Most people who get one say they are good. I think Tony has one IIRC.

Is it really worth stepping up into the super expensive realm of Stewart, etc?

Rarely. The whole key is to make the room as dark as possible and to make the screen as neutral as possible.

I've been a bit swamped lately getting ready to retire, graduation party and helping my daughter get ready for her trip to France so I haven't had a lot of forum time let alone free time. In about a month or so I should be able to find the time to get some write-ups done regarding screens. :T

I have total blackout... with black walls/rug, etc. I love the image on the carada. Perhaps it's not worth messing with.

Sounds like you have a full plate!!! Have fun with that... and congrats on the pending retirement!

Ya, my Jamestown screen is still in great shape. I think I was an early adopter of his screens and it looks like he has expanded his lineup. Turnaround was an issue but I dont know if it still is.

Falcon Screens and Seymour AV both make custom fixed frame screens with a variety of screen materials to choose from. Screen Innovations also has some cheaper custom fixed frame screens, but these are only available through dealers.

Not familiar with Falcon... any details on that company?

Falcon makes a good product. Can't recall their pricing though.

I was poking around on the Jamestown site... I'm not sure if I like how the frames are constructed. squared corners and breaks in the middle of the top and bottom frames. Looks like the price is tough to beat, though!

Wow, I'm stunned. Had no idea obviously. I have the 120" BW and I love it.

Too bad.:frown:

Agree. They made a quality product with nice craftsmanship and good support. Big bummer!

Mine is constructed this way and you dont see the seams unless your are close up and looking for them. It seems sturdy as I have not ever had issues with it warping or shifting from square. I only have mine hanging from the center cleat on the top rail. Its a 120" 2.35:1
