(June 13, 2025) Cambridge Audio is expanding its compact MX Series this summer with the launch of the MXW70—a half-width power amplifier built for high-performance stereo and home theater setups. Small in size but not short on muscle, the MXW70 delivers 70 watts per channel (at 8 ohms) in stereo mode, with the ability to transform into a 250 watt mono amp. It's the kind of flexible, clean design that slides easily into an existing system—and doesn’t demand an entire rack shelf to do it.

Designed and engineered at Cambridge Audio’s London HQ, the MXW70 was built to partner with the brand’s award-winning MXN10 music streamer, forming a discreet two-box streaming system with digital preamp functionality and full app control via StreamMagic. Pair it up with the DacMagic 200M, and you get a minimalist rig that offers physical volume control, high-res headphone output, and plenty of digital ins—all wrapped in the company’s signature Lunar Grey casework.

Under the hood, the MXW70 leans on Hypex NCORE Class D amplification, a platform known for its low distortion and high efficiency. Cambridge’s tuning aims to strike a balance between precision and musicality—what the company refers to as “sound that’s made by music.” The result is a compact amp that doesn’t just tick technical boxes but also delivers the kind of emotive playback the brand’s amps have historically been known for.

In terms of connectivity, MXW70 comes to play with both RCA stereo and XLR inputs, accommodating everything from desktop DACs to balanced preamps. Standard 4mm banana plug sockets with binding posts make speaker hookup simple. There’s also a 12V trigger input and pass-through for those who want hands-free startup behavior across their system. Cambridge includes a USB trigger cable for use with the MXN10; trigger the streamer via app, and the MXW70 powers on automatically.

At just 8.46" wide, the MXW70’s compact dimensions make it a practical option for smaller spaces.

The MXW70 will be available later this summer through cambridgeaudio.com and authorized retailers, priced at $599.
