A friend of mine is prepping to receive his new JVC NZ9 (25th Anniversary Edition) projector. This is a limited run of 25 PJs, housing what JVC says are the best, most accurate imaging chips they have to offer. Tested and hand selected... and each projector is calibrated by Kris Deering.

Here's the results for my friend's...

Those end results are incredible. Keep in mind, a DeltaE under 3 to 2.5 is basically imperceptible to the human eye. Wow, does this piece of machinery tighten up nicely!

These are pre-calibrated by Kris? That seems rather silly. :ponder:Or is Kris travelling to each person's home to calibrate them?

Calibration does look good though. :T

He, apparently, has every screen material known on hand, and is able to calibrate off site. I’m not entirely sure how this works, but It obviously assumes a completely darkened room. And he has each PJ in his possession.

Where do the "before" comes from? JVC provides before/after calibration results with the projector?

Kris Deering calibrates each unit, and he takes measurements out of the box, then makes his adjustments and measures again, so you can see the effects of what he's doing.

They are shipped to Kris, he has all of the screen materials at his home and calibrates them to what is approximated by throw distance, etc in a dark room.

I feel like, calibrated don't look as accurate as the NZ9 looks uncalibrated. That picture must be gorgeous! I've seen the NZ8 in action and that was mind blowing. I can only image how good the NZ9 looks.

It's a nice little uptick in performance. I wouldn't necessarily call it earth-shattering, but it's notable in side-by-side comparisons.
