I will have to take a hard look. Electrostats were always one of my favorite speakers. Never thought about DIY'ing them but it does sound interesting. A nice large center channel like my previous ML center would be nice.

Roger Sanders is an amazing guy... and interesting for sure. I would love to follow a build... wish I had time for one myself.

Quite the blast from the past... Sanders were the first electrostats I have ever heard, mid 1970's?... And even now I think electrostat hybrids are still the best sounding...

Electrostats are wonderful, wish I had room for a pair. Someday...

We had a good visit with Roger at one of the shows... his speakers sounded fabulous. For me they were the best of the show.

Yes, Roger's speakers are fantastic!

Here are my DIY ESL:s:

Your design is so unique and elegant… please tell us you have build photos and details to share!

Very, very nice Kakkadu

Would love to hear them sometime... can you bring them to Alabama? :whistling:

A few questions:
I don't see any woofers--- are those full range panels?
What transformers are you using?

How ironic... I was just watching a Audiopheliac video on you tube about some Sanders electrostats. They had custom crossover amps, and newer panels installed. Sometimes I miss my ML Sequel IIs.

There are two woofers per speaker if you look closely. The speakers are fully active with Dirac Live.
Currently I use Hammond 1620A transformers but I have a pair of toroidal transformers from Amplimo that I haven't tried yet.

Back when Sanders still provided parts I built many ESL projects using his transformers and power supplies...

Beautiful work and elegant design. I'm drooling over those Aplimo's--- thanks for pics and info :-)
I use tandem pairs of inexpensive 230V/2x6V power toroids, which sound really good for cheap transformers.

Interesting design... Very nice... Open baffle woofers? So cool...
