(February 14, 2021) Bowers & Wilkins is using the early stages of 2021 to strengthen its Formation technology platform. The launch of its new Music App is one of several developments that Formation users will experience this year.

The all-new Bowers & Wilkins Music App delivers immediate support for Qobuz, TIDAL TuneIN, Dash Radio, NTS Radio, and SoundCloud, with more subscription-based services scheduled to be added in the months and weeks ahead. The app itself intelligently aggregates streaming content into a user-friendly interface while offering personalized recommendations and curated playlists. It also delivers 24-bit/96kHz Hi-Res playback performance for Qobuz subscribers.

For the time being, the Bowers & Wilkins Home App will continue to provide set up functionality for Formation-enabled products. That will change later this year, as the Music App will be upgraded to perform both set up and streaming duties. Bowers & Wilkins says the Home App will eventually be phased out at that time.

Formation users will continue to enjoy AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth aptX HD support, in addition to integrated support for Roon and Spotify Connect. “Works With Alexa” certification also remains as a supported feature.

Bowers & Wilkins Brand President Geoff Edwards commented: “The new Music App is a statement of our intent to further develop and improve our Formation-enabled product portfolio and I’m certain it will help us continue to set the gold standard for wireless speaker sound quality going forwards.”
