Yeah... lol... Amazon paid me about $160 to box up the FireTV that I had just purchased, send it back on Free Returns and order another one just like it.

It’s really hard to understand the waste and inefficiency of their policy.
Now, in addition to the discount,
they’ll pay for shipping the new one out,
shipping the old one back,
will pay to receive, check and store the returned one,
will take the discount hit on selling the returned unit as an open box item,
and if sold to a prime member, pay shipping a third extra time.

One might also consider the environmental impact of unnecessary shipping which on Amazon ‘s scale is probably significant AND is there not a significant shortage of truck drivers at the moment, too?

Amazon is so wealthy they are not concerned with it... that is the only rationalization I can come up with. Nearly everything they sell now offers free returns.

HOWEVER... my situation probably needs more clarification so that it does not look like Amazon is completely ignorant in my situation. I think my TV unit may have had a bug in it... and I won't know that until I get the new set. Otherwise I would have probably tried to negotiate the discount with them, and I suspect they would have obliged. Yet... the fact remains that they would ALLOW me to return it with no bugs and reorder it if I chose to do so... bug or no bug.

I wonder if they’d eventually flag you if you repeatedly returned items?

I do agree about the environmental impact. This online shopping culture is an energy back breaker!

They can flag you and close your account for abuse on returns. There are articles on people who are anti-Amazon who purchase extremely cheap items (say pencils) and then return in an endless cycle to “show amazon”, the point being free shipped to you and free shipped return costing way more than product. These individuals get kicked eventually.

Yes... I'm sure they would eventually boot you if you abused it.

The good side of "energy back breakers" is it keeps people employed.

I don't disagree, Sonnie. Double edged sword!

I have had Amazon tell me to keep, or give away a product that would not fit my needs, and then refunded also gave mea full refund. They even refunded import fees and taxes.

Sounds like maybe they’ve come around since my last go round a few years ago. Good for them.
