I've lurked around for a while, here and on the old forum, and rarely post anything. Not shy at all but I've always figured you learn by listening more and talking less.
I'm coming up on 82 and, thank the Lord, still have reasonably good hearing (although the wife says I don't ever hear a word she says.
)
Back in the fifties I was a drummer and one of my heros, Buddy Rich, responded to the question, "Why don't you use two bass drums like Louis Belson?" Rich said, "If I ever can't do it with one I'll use two." That's the way I feel about stereo and surround sound. If I can't hear what I want with two speakers I'll use five more. The truth is; I've had a 7.2 system for several years but, strangely, I've slowly moved back to 2.2, with two SVS 12" sealed subs. Surround sound just doesn't do it for me anymore and it's rare that I ever switch over to Dolby or DTS. A really good stereo recording needs to be played back in stereo. Movies? If I ever watch any of those lousy cartoon movies so prevalent today I guess I'll turn on DTS or Dolby. As for Atmos! Don't even get me started on Atmos! Hey! I said I was almost 82! That means I'm intolerant of anything I don't agree with!
My system is modest, by most folks standards:
Denon AVR3313i AVR
Crown XLS 1502 Amp (Front L/R speakers)
ML Motion 12 Mains
ML Motion 6 Center
SVS 12" Sealed Subs
Polk Model ? Sides and Rears
70" Vizio HDTV (old 1024 set that won't break so I can upgrade!!!)
All music (Classical, Symphonic, Jazz, old Rock) burned to flac on Plex server
All movies/TV burned to MP4 on Plex server
Finally, it's good to see the core group from Home Theater Shack alive and well and doing what they do best; helping guys like me learn more about a/v.
Thanks, boys, glad I found you all here.
