I am used to disconnecting all my speakers and sub except the one I'm testing (very fiddly and time consuming).:(

I have now ordered a UMIK-1 and will use ASIO4all and a HDMI connection for my next testing.
This time I will be testing some new positions for my mains in my home theatre.
Using ASIO4all, I want to run full range sweeps on the speakers.
The speakers are currently set as small in the Denon.
To ensure full range results, should I set them to large, or doesn't it matter?
Also should I tell the Denon that there is no sub?

Are there other AVR Settings that I should look at?
Obviously I should turn off Audyssey but are there any others that will effect the testing?

For full range set to large.

No. When speakers you are measuring are set to large the sub will not be sent a signal.

Any up mixer or down mixer.

What about Sound Modes settings?
On the input I plug the HDMI interconnect into on my Denon (X1500H), what would be the best Sound Mode, to ensure the REW signal is not interfered with in any way?

I've been using the plain Dolby Digital sound mode since I started using REW a couple years ago. So far no complaints.

Since I initially posted, I have found setting Sound Mode to "Mono Movie" and input signal to "Multi Ch in 7.1" appears to work well, and I feel confident that no DSP or other process is effecting REW's test tones passing to my Denon.

Will not "Direct" or "Pure direct" be the best sound modes, since you are not using Audyssey?

As an update, John Mulcahy has recommended to use any Sound Mode that will accept a PCM source (REW is a PCM source).
On my X1500H Denon, this would be "Mono Movie" and "Multi Ch In".

I have now run several tests with my UMIK-1, and it is definitely the ONLY way to go. So simple, so easy. :T

I am confused. Dolby Digital is discrete no processed audio.

Seems like switching modes might add processing? I have a Denon 6400.

That's what worried me as well.
So that'e why I make sure to use modes that are non-processing and don't up-mix.
