Auto EQ boost gain

Hi all

i know: i shold not add gain to an EQ to avoid clipping...

But i have enough headroom to add gain to an eq filter.
But always when i use the auto eq function, it will only use negative values in the gain even when i choose allow "individual max. boost".

How can i make sure, that the eq will also add gain?

Thanks a lot

Christian

I'm sure John will chime in to confirm, but I think there is a setting in the auto EQ to allow for positive-gain filters, with the user setting the maximum allowed.

Hi Wayne

I already allowed the eq to boost by setting individual max boost to 10dB and also the overall max boost setting to 10 dB, but all filters are negative in gain when i use auto eq.

I'd have to see a baseline curve for comparison, but assuming the red trace is predicted response after EQ, it appears that negative-gain filtering is what the graph calls for in this case. What / where exactly are you trying to boost?

Ahh... i think thats the reason:

Note that by default REW will not apply filters below the frequency at which the measurement first exceeds the target or above the frequency at which the measurement last drops below the target to prevent trying to boost a response beyond its natural roll-offs, if you wish to lift the low or high end response this can be done with manually applied filters but beware of exceeding the excursion limits or headroom of the woofer or power handling limits of the tweeter.
