Ascendo Drops an Infrasonic Bombshell with Groundbreaking The28 Sub Squared Pro, Adds The 16Sub Pro Passive to Lineup

(August 29, 2024) Ascendo Immersive Audio isn't shy about flexing its low-end muscle, having used the grand stages of CEDIA 2022 and 2023 to showcase its massive infrasonic and formidable kick sub designs. This year is shaping up to be another statement showing, as the company has revealed plans to arrive armed with two new models guaranteed to leave jaws dragging on the floor. Headlining the act is a radical new design with commanding aesthetics. Built from the ground up, the all-new The28 Sub Squared Pro Passive may very well be the most innovative subwoofer launched at the show.

Born from a conversation between Ascendo's co-managing partner Geoffrey Heinzel and Trinnov's CEO Arnaud Laborie, the The28 Sub Squared Pro Passive is intended to tackle low-end duties in rooms that lack large amounts of floor space. Using a 28" composite sandwich cone formed by multiple layers of Rohacell and advanced composite materials, the The28 Sub Squared Pro Passive possesses the cone area equivalent of a 32" subwoofer but with a cabinet that's significantly more svelte than other Ascendo models. At 31.5" wide x 39.4" high and an overall depth of just 12", it’s extremely room-friendly; customers can even request a custom option that shrinks the enclosure to as shallow as 8".

“This isn't just another subwoofer; it's a bold leap forward in sound engineering, created to deliver an unparalleled bass experience,” explains Heinzel. “It effortlessly reproduces single-digit infrasonic frequencies, delivering bass you can feel in your bones. At the same time, it can soar well above the LFE cutoff frequency of 120 Hz, serving as the ultimate kick woofer. We’ve harnessed an immense amount of power in the motor structure, giving it the muscle needed to accelerate the cone, motor mass, and coupled air mass with lightning speed. This results in a subwoofer that produces a perfect planar wavefront, with high efficiency, ultra-high power handling, and very low system Q. The shallow roll-off, combined with ultra-dynamic response, means that every sound—from the subtlest whisper to the most intense action scene—hits with native speed, attack, and impact that other woofers simply can't match.”

The16 Sub Pro Passive, Ascendo's other sub reveal, is also designed to accommodate smaller spaces. Ascendo says the advanced nature of its Rohacell carbon sandwich cone exhibits strength and lightness, while the surround's Santoprene material allows for high excursion and, ultimately, impressive air movement. By removing the electronics compartment and utilizing top-of-the-line neodymium magnets instead of traditional ceramic ones, the The16 packs a massive punch from a compact package (18.5" wide x 18.5" high x 11.6" deep). With a power handling capacity of 1,500 W RMS and even higher peak power, the The16 works seamlessly with the most powerful of amplifiers.

The The28 Sub Squared Pro Passive costs a weighty $30,000 (MSRP), while the The16 Sub Pro Passive carries a tag of $5,800. Both models are available now. Contact Todd Sutherland at Sutherland AV Marketing for information about distribution in North American markets.

If you're attending CEDIA 2024, you can experience the The28 Sub Squared Pro Passive in Sound Room 4. The The16 Sub Pro Passive will be in operation in Sound Room 3.

30K for a sub... that would hurt in more ways than one. That sub might give new meaning to :hsd:

Hefty price tag, for sure. I’d love to see manufacturing numbers on these (or equivalent). I’d bet they are selling more than you think!

I think there’s about a 100% possibility that 4 of those will find their way into his home.

Not sure if you guys have seen this or not, but this is the electrical feed into Sonnie’s room (for subs only)…

Bummer... I'll have to cut more of my front stage out to get them to fit in my room. :spend:

Yes, such a bummer… :)) The biggest bummer will be the eight 220V circuits you’re going to need to run (and the resulting electric bill). :-)
