Took a long trip from Denver to Chicago, to Washington DC and down to Charleston SC in1966. Round trip. Had a ball. But was waaay before Amtrack.
 
I used to take lot of road trips to see America and I have hit just about every state, not all, but the vast majority.

But, I would like to take a scenic train trip one day..
