(June 18, 2025) Bowers & Wilkins has launched a definitive limited release with its 801 Abbey Road Limited Edition, a loudspeaker designed to commemorate the brand’s 45-year partnership with the legendary London recording facility. It’s a specialized version of the company’s 801 D4 Signature floorstanding speaker—one of the highest-performing designs in Bowers & Wilkins’ current portfolio—and it arrives with a unique aesthetic twist meant to reflect Abbey Road’s enduring role in music history.

Only 140 pairs of the 801 Abbey Road Edition will be produced, each featuring a cabinet finished in vintage walnut veneer and accented with Connolly red leather trim. That choice of materials isn’t arbitrary: the look is meant to echo the interiors of Studio Two – perhaps the world’s most famous studio space – as well as the red leather chairs used by generations of performers. To complete this luxury package, a custom identification plate is mounted on the rear of each speaker, and buyers also receive a specially commissioned book detailing the shared legacy of Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road Studios.

Underneath those cosmetic delicacies, the 801 Abbey Road Edition maintains the core architecture of the 801 D4 Signature. That includes the company’s diamond dome tweeter, a Continuum Cone FST midrange driver housed in the distinctive Turbine Head enclosure, and dual 10-inch Aerofoil bass drivers. These bass drivers have been upgraded with improved magnets relative to the standard 801 D4, aiming for even lower distortion and tighter control. Further refinements include an upgraded aluminum top plate beneath the Turbine Head to reduce resonance, a redesigned cast-aluminum bass port for quieter airflow, and crossover tweaks using revised bypass capacitors to push transparency even further.

The tweeter also benefits from a redesigned grille—an FEA-optimized mesh that allows more energy into the room while still protecting the driver. This contributes to increased openness and air, especially at the top end.

Commenting on the launch, Giles Pocock, Vice-President of Brand Marketing for Bowers & Wilkins, says: “We’re immensely proud of our partnership with our friends at Abbey Road and we think the 801 Abbey Road Limited Edition is the perfect way to celebrate that.” Jeremy Huffelmann, General Manager for Abbey Road Studios, echoed the sentiment, noting that the speaker “honors our shared history with an outstanding representation of the values, heritage, and credibility of both our brands.”

The 801 Abbey Road Limited Edition is priced at $70,000 per pair and is available now via select dealers. If you have deep pockets and a hole in your sonic arsenal, these might an acquisition worth considering.
