A couple of questions about Audyssey and REW. Please Help

Right to the point. I have a Marantz 6015 AVR and DUAL SVS PB-2000S. I just bought a mini dsp hd and a umik. So the 2 questions I have I cannot find an answer on for the life of me and don't have any close buddies that are in to this sort of stuff so I am a lone ranger on this deal.

1. Do I need to run Audyssey before calibration? And should I run it after I have calibrated my subs?
2. If I already downloaded the miniDSP HD plugin do I need to also download 2-Way Advanced Crossover since I have a dual sub setup with independent inputs?

The second question was a little tough to put into words but Im praying that someone out there understands what I am asking. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I would use the PEQ in the miniDSP HD to tame the worst peaks in the subs (summed together), then you could run Audyssey on top of it. Let the Marantz handle the crossover from subs to mains.

REW and the UMIK will help you determine where the peaks are in the subs.

Thank you Sonnie, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. That answer makes sense. The only other thing I am a little confused by is after making adjustments to my subs. What I mean is, lets say I make my adjustments and get everything loaded into the miniDSP. Now my miniDSP is controlling the settings of my subs. But if I re-run Audyssey wouldn't that now affect the settings of the miniDSP, when I play content????


Before I asked this question I pondered solutions but the only thing I could think of was maybe disabling the sub/subs (in the amp assign menu) but then wouldn't that stop the AVR from sending a signal to the sub completely during playback?


Maybe I am overthinking this but my UMIK will be here sometime today and I just wanted to get a jumpstart on my game plan before it arrives.

Audyssey will finish correcting the subs, but won't have to do as much and will be able to better set the proper levels between the subs and mains since all the peaks are removed prior to running Audyssey. You want Audyssey to run on top of the PEQ and finish smoothing out the frequencies. The PEQ will help accomplish this. I run a few PEQ filters in my subs before running Dirac or Audiolense.
