2024 MLB

I've watched the replay and read the comments. From what I have seen, he was clearly safe. However, the comments from some of the Mets fans say that the New York cameras grabbed it from another angle and his hand never actually touched the plate. He left it in the air above it instead of getting it down on the ground. They (the Mets fans) were the ones saying he was out and the call was correct.

Either way, it's a W for the Cubbies, so I'm happy!

I was wondering about that... it could be that the ump saw that too and reported it back to the video review folks.

Always good to get a win over NY teams! (sorry, not sorry)

Do the cubs have any hope?
Maybe in 2026. Wow did this season take a turn. I was confident of a playoff appearance (and early exit) back in May. Not a chance anymore. I did not see the poop show that this season turned out to be coming back then. .

Thanks for keeping me up. I was raised by Harry Carey and Steve Stone, watching the cubs every day in rural Arkansas on WGN. Been too busy as an adult to follow closely.

I think the entire country was watching the Cubbies on WGN back then! Here in the Balt/Wash area, we had the O's on Home Team Sports, the Cubs on WGN, and the Braves on TBS. And that was it.

I kinda miss the days when there was a bit of a forced regionalism.

Mike, the Cubs started off so red hot! You guys had the high of re-signing Bellinger... it looked like the Cards were going to have a down year. Pittsburgh was scorching then fizzled...

What in the world happened???

Right!?! I had high hopes that this year was the beginning of something good. Again, I knew nothing HUGE was gonna happen this season, but I thought it might be the start. Now it sounds like they’re gonna blow the whole thing up. Everyone is on the trade block. There’s always next year.

In the meantime, go Orioles!

I mean... they're only 5.5 out of the wild card and it's July 5th. And they're run differential is only -22. You could see a scenario where they get hot, make up ground and squeak in.

That’d be a lot of fun if it happened, but I think I’ll just live vicariously through the fans of other teams who actually are good. 😂😂😂

The Cubs are killing me, Mike! Killing me!!!! :paddle:

I think they (the Cubs) are upset that I’ve been cheering for the Orioles lately. The Yankees are still struggling though, right?

Yankees are struggling, but the Red Sox are red hot. They're only 6 out of first!!!

I’ve seen a few times where people compare the current Orioles to the 2016 Cubs. I sure hope the O’s have more longevity than those Cubs did.

Hey Todd, they're back to 5.5 out of the wild card again! I actually lost track of how they are doing with my softball coaching season and school getting back underway. I check this morning and low and behold they are in second place. Who woulda thunk it?

PS. I'm up to 44 entries for Brett's CEDIA raffle....

There's so much parity in the MLB right now... I think the Cubbies have a shot!!!!

44 Entires?!?!?!

Drawing is tonight, I think?

The KC Royals are in 1st place and playing some good ball. Still a long way to go but it’s nice being in the thick of it! Worst to first…

Jeff - they're killing it right now. Awesome!!

The O's are hanging on by a thread. A game out of first, but injuries have been brutal.

We've lost our starting second baseman for the year.

Last month, our All-Star third baseman got hit by a pitch and broke his hand... he's out until late September.

Our starting first baseman is on the IL with a wrist injury.

Our closer had Tommy John.

Four starting pitchers, including Kyle Bradish who led the AL in ERA last year, also went down and required Tommy John. Most are lost for next year, too :surrender:

Our number two starter, Grayson Rodriguez, had a lat strain and hasn't pitched in 3 weeks... he might make it back by late September.

Our number three starter Zach Eflin is on the DL with shoulder inflammation, hoping to return in 14 days.

Two key members of the bullpen had surgery, hoping to make it back by the end of Sept. But no timetable.

I mean... it's like a hospital ward. If we had all of our pieces... or at least half of the pieces that are hurt... I'd feel a lot more confident. Right now, it feels like the team is limping into stretch with a six shooter loaded with one bullet. Need a miracle!

September baseball is a lot of fun, especially when there are a bunch of teams in the mix. Looking forward to catching up and following along.

Still treading water in Baltimore. It's amazing the O's have managed to play .500 ball over the last 6 weeks.

Fingers crossed that some of our weapons return with enough time to tune up for a post season push!

The Cubbies are doing alright, but they aren’t gaining any ground. I bet the O’s turn it on in time for the playoffs. Should be a fun October in Baltimore!

Well, with their loss last night the Cubs have been eliminated from winning their division. It's not like I thought they had a chance in the first place, but for some reason it still stings a bit. How is everyone else's team doing this late in the season?

I went to the O's game last night. Another loss... there was brutal moment in the 4 or 5th inning where the bases were loaded with no outs (O's in the field) and a play was made to homeplate for a force out and the catcher had planted his foot about 3 inches off the plate.

Safe was the call and the Giants went on to score 3 times that inning.

The O's remain a very injured team. I really can't believe how many players they've lost. Hopefully they'll get a few back in the next week... in the meantime, hold on to a wild card spot. It's pretty ugly right now

Mike, looking like the WC is out for the Cubs?

Most likely, yes. They are 7 out of the third wild card spot. I don't know why I'm bothered by it, I knew they weren't going anywhere this season. I suppose it's because its not just a hunch at this point, it's a reality.

Looks like I'll join ex-Cub Brandon Hyde and the Orioles and pull for them in the postseason. They're 2-8 in their last 10, that's a pretty rough stretch. But they're still 4 up in the WC, so they should be alright. Hopefully they get healthier as we approach October!
