I use a beringer XLR measurement mic for REW. This is connected to a miditech audiolink3 soundcard. I prefer to use loopback for timing and this has 2 channels with 1/4 inch jacks. It does the job but it means using the analog inputs on my minidsp 2x4HD via the headphone out 1/4 jack which is susceptible to noise, ill fitting jacks etc and Iv been wishing for a long time to find a simiar product but with an optical or s/pdif coax line output. Im no expert on sound technology industry and struggle to comprehend the purpose of the most specialised equipment out there.

this is what I use now -

Also whats the benefits of this more complicated setup compared to the Umik usb mic setup ?
For me my interest is car audio and optical stuff just seems easier to setup/control and less problematic, especialy regarding noise. (the biggest battles in my opinion)

If I understand what you are looking for, Creative (Sound Blaster) has several external sound cards with optical ports.

Yeah I thought about it, what I was looking for was the same sort of device but with an optical line out to my DAC but I think because everything inside the soundcard is analog so then Id need one with a DAC inside to connect to my DAC which does seem a bit pointless. The mic is XLR which I beleive to be a clever noise cancelling analog signal, so ill just upgrade the RCA's and maybe isolate the soundcard power supply with another miniDC isolator.

I use a creative SB usb card it has 5.1 outs or 4ch out or two ch out or optical out and a line in for loop back

it works excellent and has a very flat response…. No cal needed really

cool, whats the model name, Ill look it up? cheers

I have that same one, I did a soundcard cal anyway but it really didn’t correct anything lol

it works fantastic for what it is. Excellent little sounding unit as well. REW picks it up and Java drivers work also.
