(October 23, 2024) Hisense has added a new model to its home theater lineup with the release of the PL2 Laser Cinema ultra-short throw (UST) projector. Aimed at home theater enthusiasts seeking a balance of performance and aesthetics, the PL2 is designed to offer large-scale visuals with ease of installation and versatile functionality. This model continues Hisense's push into the UST market, offering advanced laser projection technology alongside smart TV features.

The PL2 utilizes Hisense’s X-Fusion laser engine, which delivers bright and vibrant images with a 2700 ANSI lumen rating, providing clear visuals even in rooms with some ambient light. The projector supports 4K resolution at 60Hz, making it suitable for various content, including films, sports, and gaming. It also features 4K AI upscaling to enhance lower-resolution content for better clarity. The unit’s HDR compatibility includes HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG, allowing for high dynamic range content with a more vivid color palette and enhanced contrast.

A key feature of the PL2 is its adjustable projection size, which ranges from 80 to 150 inches, offering flexibility for use in small, medium, and large rooms. With a throw ratio of 0.22:1, the PL2 can project a large image from a short distance, making it easier to set up in smaller spaces. The PL2 is also equipped with smart features through the Google TV platform, providing access to popular streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and YouTube directly from the device. The projector’s integration with Google Assistant, Chromecast, and AirPlay 2 ensures smooth interaction with other smart home products, while its compatibility with Control4 and Apple HomeKit allows for easy integration into home automation systems. Additionally, the projector supports active 3D, adding another layer of immersion for compatible content.

Regarding audio, the PL2 includes built-in 30W stereo speakers featuring Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital for an immersive sound experience without the need for external audio equipment. However, for users who prefer more robust audio, the projector is WiSA-ready, supporting wireless audio streaming to compatible speaker systems. Connectivity options include two HDMI 2.1 ports with ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for responsive gaming, as well as USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, Ethernet, and optical audio output.

Physically, the PL2 comes in a graphite finish and measures 20.9" x 4.7" x 13.2", weighing 18.7 pounds, a compact design that makes it room-friendly. And for installations within reach of children and pets, Hisense has integrated eye safety features to reduce brightness when objects are detected in front of the laser light source.

The PL2 is now available for $2,497.97 and can be purchased from Amazon and ProjectorScreen.com. Both retailers have the PL2 in stock and offer free shipping.
