Vinyl Resurgence Gains Momentum

Right about the time I am getting OUT of the vinyl storage business.

Pretty amazing. The sales numbers are impressive... the weird thing is that a huge chuck of buyers only display (not play) their records. It's like a novelty. I can dig up the stats somewhere...

Exactly... which is why I mentioned "vinyl storage" in my post. I purchased the Denon player thinking I was going to play all my albums, and for the life of me I just can't handle the sound. I don't even like it at the shows on the $25,000 players with $5,000 cartridges. So I know I won't ever appreciate it at home. I know there are guys out there that die for it... love it... bleed it!

Before you pat vinyl on the back, keep in mind it very much remains a niche format outside the halls of industry audio events. Last year, a study conducted by ICM Unlimited found a whopping 48-percent of vinyl buyers don’t play their purchases (7-percent of those surveyed didn’t even own a turntable). This suggests vinyl sales are driven by hipsters looking for a collectable they can display, rather than play.

Nope... mine don't even get displayed. Most of them are in boxes in our cellar. But I was one of those that went years and years without a player. Thought I could make them sound as good as a CD and never could get there. Have never heard any vinyl anywhere that sounded anywhere close to as good as my digital music on my system either, so it's a wasting space and collecting dust. And I ain't holding on to anything just so our daughter will have something to sell or pawn after we leave this place.
