I am using a Denon X4800H. I have four identical subwoofers, each one is plugged into a discrete sub out on the AVR and are aligned via Audyssey XT32.
Yesterday I was looking to take some measurements for the first time in a while, and started off with a standard LFE sweep in REW via the AUX1 input of the Denon. This is the response that I'm used to seeing at moderate volumes:
What I got instead were multiple deep nulls across the range. Unfortunately, I'm not on my REW laptop at the moment and don't have that plot available to share, but suffice to say it was a mess. I triple checked all of the settings in REW and in the Denon (I even uninstalled/reinstalled REW at one point) and tried again several times - the results were the same. At this point I was getting nervous that my kids somehow messed with the delay knobs on the subs and I'd be forced to spend hours dialing things in again. I then had the idea to try a different port on the AVR. I plugged into AUX2 and reran the sweep - things again looked as I'm accustomed to, all of the wild deviations in the response were gone and things were nice and smooth.
Now I'm wondering - is this a known issue? What might be the cause? Of course, I can't help but wonder if perhaps AUX1 is accurate and AUX2 is giving me an artificially rosy view of things, although I doubt that's the case. Has anyone else encountered this?
