Using REW to measure in room response, but not to correct it

Hi there folks,

I have just taken delivery of a Umik 1 microphone and downloaded REW. All I really want to be able to do is to look at a frequency response plot of my stereo loudspeakers I don't want to apply any corrections to their response - I just want to get a feel for where the bass rolls off or if the treble is recessed etc in room.

I am hoping this will also enable me to tailor things like loudspeaker position or to use bass traps etc to improve the performance of my own reference speakers in room.

I have an Alienware laptop which has both HDMI out and headphone out. My main audio amplifiers are by Naim audio so those will not accept a test sweep feed via HDMI unless I go into my Pioneer AV amplifier and use it's pre-out capability to link to the Naim's. I'm guessing my easiest way to go direct to the Naim amps is to use headphone out on my laptop into RCA phono inputs or DIN on the back of the Naim amplifiers?

I'd be grateful if anybody here could tell me how best to achieve what I want to do. Most of you seem to be using REW to compensate for response anomalies in multichannel setups or subwoofers. My use case is quite different and focused on two channel high end stereo speakers and amplifiers and my desire to see how they are behaving in room which is why I am struggling to figure out how best to proceed or indeed how to wire things up.

Certainly, you can use your laptop’s headphone output to send a signal to your Naim amplifier. That was actually common practice before HDMI capability came into the picture.

Another method is to use the Generator to create sweep tones and save to a .wav file you can play thru your entire kit like any other .wav file... https://www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_en-GB/html/offlinemeasurements.html#top

Looks like your streamer has a front-panel USB port for replay of USB-stored audio... Seems like you could just copy a sweep tone(s) in .wav format to a USB jump drive...

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'm going to follow your advice tomorrow and will see how I get on using headphone out.
