The REW manual suggests the need for a preamp, etc. with the iMM-6 mic from Dayton Audio. Why can't I simply plug it into my laptop's mic/headphone jack (using an extension cable)?

Obviously, I haven't yet tried actually using the software! I do have a Behringer Mic preamp, but it's hooked up to my music podcast equipment & would be a pain to swap in & out.

Thanks,
Joe

Which manual are you referring to? The REW help doesn't mention the iMM-6. It could be used if your laptop has a suitable connector for it (TRRS headset socket) and any extension cable similarly has TRRS either end.

Sorry, I was referencing the REW home page (not the manual), and incorrectly "remembering" the EMM6 as being an iMM6.

Thanks for your answer! I'm all set now - until the next hurdle.
