Trinnov Unleashes Pressurization, the Latest Add-On to Its Waveforming Technology

(January 25, 2024) Trinnov Audio is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its WaveForming technology by introducing its latest innovation, WaveForming Pressurization. This new, patent-pending feature will be showcased in an active 13.14.6 channel home cinema system at ISE 2024. The demonstration is expected to attract significant attention from audiophiles and industry experts alike.

Over the past year, Trinnov has been refining its WaveForming technology through selective releases to expert partners and qualified beta testers. This controlled development process has allowed the company to enhance key parameters and confirm its approach. The introduction of Pressurization is a significant addition to Trinnov's portfolio of active acoustic solutions, offering a dedicated technology for addressing various acoustic behaviors in home cinema rooms.

WaveForming technology comprises two distinct modes: Pressurization and Propagation. The Pressurization mode maximizes a system's performance below the room's first mode, enhancing impact, pressure, and efficiency... even through infrasonic frequencies. It achieves this by utilizing a room's front and rear subwoofers as a single 3D volumetric array below its first mode frequency, maximizing pressurization across the acoustic field. Propagation steps in to reach beyond mitigating room modes; it eliminates the modal response from the first mode up to 150Hz, where room modes are most problematic. This is achieved through Trinnov's exclusive concepts, including Multiple Sources and Multiple Controllers, allowing complete control over the sound field.

How Does Pressurizaton Work?
According to Trinnov:

Room modes are different from one room to another. This is because the frequency and effet of standing waves is a function of wavelengths and the room's dimensions along with the construction methods and materials used for the room. However, below a certain frequency (the longer the room, the lower that first mode frequency), standing waves do not create huge dips and peaks in the room because wavelengths are too long to cancel each other out perfectly at any given location in the room.

Below the room’s first mode frequency, Pressurization progressively takes over Propagation within the WaveForming algorithm, and the front and rear subwoofers planar arrays are used as a single 3D volumetric array to achieve maximum pressurization across the entire acoustic field. This brings multiple benefits:
  • More emitting surface means the combination of all subwoofers playing together enables reproduction of lower frequencies, extending to the infrabass.
  • The rear subwoofers act no longer as pure absorbers but also as emitters. All subwoofers specified, installed and paid for contribute to the sound pressure level in the low frequencies.
  • The rear subwoofers take a load off the front subwoofers, at the most stressing frequencies, resulting in cleaner and louder bass coming from the front array.
Pressurization is built into WaveForming at every step of the algorithm to achieve:
  • The best possible pressurization of the room, taking into account the typical leaks of real rooms. We realize that a room does not act as a perfect wave guide and that WaveForming-Propagation is necessary to achieve performance in a real environment. The same applies with WaveForming-Pressurization to achieve performance in normal rooms as they do not act as a perfect pressure chamber or compression chamber.
  • The optimal and seamless transition between the Pressurization and the Propagation mode of WaveForming.

Experience Pressurization at ISE
Trinnov, along with Krix, Officina Acustica, and Barco, is set to showcase an insane home theater extravaganza with a 20-minute demo at SE 2024. The system will feature Krix’s dedicated home cinema range of speakers, including two unreleased models (OWX-55 and prototype dual 18” infrasonic subwoofers) making their public debut. Thirty-six channels of processing will be handled by a Trinnov Altitude32 (Decoding, Crossovers, and Calibration) and an Altitude48ext (Extra Channel Processing). And visuals will be thrown by a Barco Njord CS 5K UHD 3-chip DLP laser projector, capable of pumping out 9000 lumens.

If you'd like to experience the demo, you can visit booth 2C500 at the show. Public hours are 12 pm to 4 pm Tuesday and Friday, and 1 pm to 4 pm Wednesday and Thursday. Private showings last an extra 10 minutes and are by invitation only (9 am - 12 pm every day, 4 pm - 6 pm Tuesday to Thursday).

Interesting... hope I live long enough to actually see it all come to fruition, being these things always seem to drag on forever.

Trinnov's Waveforming, as good as it sounds, certainly wasn't ready for prime time (IMHO) when it was announced. I think it was the company's response to StormAudio gaining exclusive access to Dirac ART. Likely, Waveforming was dangled as a carrot so dealers would have a sales counterpoint to ART.

Good move, as it's certainly kept the spotlight on Trinnov.

But, you're right @Sonnie... it's taking a loooooooong time to beta test and fine tune. Complex stuff, I guess :ponder:

Yeah... DLART is not for the faint-at-heart audio-type person. It's time-consuming and takes a bit to learn. On the surface, the Trinnov version seems even more complicated.
