(June 5, 2025) Theory Professional is turning up the volume—literally—on its large-format ambitions. This week, the company unveiled a new line of amplified loudspeaker controllers designed to bring its high-output, high-fidelity sound to larger and more complex commercial installs. Dubbed the PLC Series, the lineup is set to debut at InfoComm 2025 and features four compact, rack-mountable models built on Powersoft’s proven amplifier technology.

The lineup includes two 8-channel units—the PLC-4K8 (8x500W) and PLC-8K8 (8x1000W)—and two 4-channel units—the PLC-9K4 (4x2250W) and PLC-16K4 (4x4000W). That last one alone can deliver 16,000 watts in a single rack space, which should be enough to wake up the neighbors of any professional venue.

But raw power is only half the story here. Theory’s new controllers integrate Powersoft’s patented Class-D topologies and advanced DSP architecture, offering fine-tuned performance with features like linear phase FIR filters, Active Damping Control, and native Dante and AES67 support. Everything is designed to be as efficient, scalable, and dead-reliable as the rest of Theory’s catalog.

“Theory’s small-format gear made a strong impression when we first brought it to InfoComm in 2023,” said Theory CEO Paul Hales. “Ever since, we’ve heard from integrators and specifiers asking us to bring that same level of fidelity and headroom to larger installs. With the new PLC line and our SR Series loudspeakers, we’re meeting that demand head-on.”

Each PLC controller supports power sharing across all channels and includes a swappable USB key for quick amplifier configuration or restore—nice to have in fast-paced live environments. There’s even support for maritime compliance, which gives the line a nod toward high-end marine and yacht installations.

On the network side, integrators get three configurable 1Gb ports (with PoE), Auto IP support, and full integration with Dante and AES67 networks. This makes the PLC Series particularly well-suited for jobs where centralized control and high channel counts are a must.

Marc Bertrand, Theory’s CSO, added: “Partnering with Powersoft to build out the PLC Series was a no-brainer. When you’re designing systems that rely on Dante or AES67 for signal routing, you need gear that’s predictable, clean, and tough. Powersoft gives us that foundation.”

Luca Lastrucci, CEO of Powersoft, echoed the enthusiasm: “This partnership with Theory showcases what’s possible when performance, reliability, and efficiency come together. The PLC Series sets a new benchmark in networked audio control.”

Theory says the PLC Series will ship in Fall 2025. If you’re heading to InfoComm, you’ll find them at Booth 5167 and in demo room W232B.
