SVS has recently released an update for their subwoofer app for their two new releases the SB17 & SB5000.
The app update was released July 15th 2025 and updates the subs firmware using the app.
If your sub shipped with this newest firmware version 5.0.12 and you use the app then you will not receive a "update available" notification.
However if like me your sub had the original firmware you will be prompted to take the update when you use the SVS app.
Please do not try to update your SVS SB17 or SB5000 using an android device. There is a severe glitch between android devices and this firmware update.
I was not aware of this and when I received the update notification on my SVS app, I was using an android device which is all I currently have.
I have (4) SVS SB5000 subs and when the first sub failed to complete the update I tried again using another sub but that also failed to complete the update as well.
Naturally this happened on Labor Day weekend so I could not contact SVS support until the following Tuesday.
After contacting SVS support I was told I would need to use an Apple device which would download and install the firmware update smoothly.
Since I do not have an apple device SVS support tried a number of options to get the update to work on my android device but all failed as well.
They suggested I try and borrow an i-Phone from somebody and if I use an Apple device all will work smoothly.
I was able to get a friend to loan me his i-Phone and downloaded the SVS app onto it and then updated all (4) of my SVS SB5000's painlessly.
The SVS App communicated with all my subs using my friends i-Phone.
So far so good but my adventure did not stop there.
Although all (4) subs updated the firmware successfully using my friends i-Phone, when I tried to use my android device and use the
SVS app to control my subs my android device did not recognize the firmware update and would no longer communicate with my subs.
Using my android device the SVS App kept prompting to update the firmware in error.
I uninstalled the SVS App and tried many tricks even trying 3rd party cleaners to remove any residue files left in my android device preventing the SVS app from properly working
After numerous installs and uninstalls and clearing cache and data to no avail I knew what awaited me would not be pleasant.
Since keeping my friends i-Phone was not an option, I had to reset and delete all files back to factory settings which erased everything on my android device.
Starting over from refreshed factory settings and then downloading the SVS App it communicated with my (4) subs and recognized the firmware update and no longer prompted for any updates.
If you are still with me let me tell you the firmware update made a huge difference in the subs output gain and now I am golden.
I will be reinstalling and running the Audyssey Editor App due to the massive change in subwoofer output.
There is another SVS App update coming which will enable a new feature providing room correction for the SB17 & SB5000 subs which should be run before running any room correction such as Audyssey.
This update will also require use of an Apple device. Do not try and update this one either using an android device.
I am posting this in hopes of preventing anyone else from going through this nightmare.
