StormAudio’s processors have long been admired for their modularity, upgrade paths, and reference-grade immersive sound. Its new ADEC (Advanced Decoder Card) represents another major leap in that journey with a complete in-house redesign of the decoding section that delivers higher levels of performance gains and long-term flexibility.

At its core, ADEC is a next-generation decoder that multiplies processing power by a factor of ten over Storm’s previous design. It introduces a new dual-core DSP and ARM-based architecture, rewriting the entire decoding code from the ground up. The result is lightning-fast responsiveness. Codec-to-codec switching is now 2.5 times faster, minimizing the dropouts that can occur when switching between streaming formats or sources.

Beyond speed, ADEC is fully certified for the latest immersive audio formats – Dolby Atmos 1.8, DTS:X Pro, Auro-3D, MPEG-H, and Sony 360 Reality Audio – and can now support up to 35 channels of processing (32 active on current ISP units), expanding system configuration possibilities from 1,669 to nearly 2,500. That gives integrators and enthusiasts the ability to build even larger, more complex theaters while maintaining seamless synchronization and precise object rendering.

In practice, Storm says this card is designed to remain relevant for the next decade, ensuring owners don’t need to replace an entire processor to keep up with evolving audio technologies. It’s a perfect example of Storm’s ethos: delivering products that are both state-of-the-art and sustainable.

In this video, we take a closer look at why ADEC was developed, what it brings to Storm’s lineup, and what the installation process looks like from a real-world owner’s perspective. Then it's taken for a test spin!
