SPL Logger: How to ignore/reset initialization spike? (LAFMax & LZpeak getting stuck)

Hi everyone,

I’m using the REW SPL Logger to document intermittent residential impact noise (door slams, heavy dropping) from a neighbor over 8-hour overnight periods.

My Setup:
  • Hardware: Built-in microphone array on an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (Windows 11).
  • Audio Settings: 4-channel, 24-bit, 48000 Hz. All AI noise-canceling and audio enhancements (ASUS Armoury Crate / Windows) are completely disabled to get a raw signal.
  • Calibration: I just performed a relative calibration using a secondary SPL meter and pink noise. The ambient noise floor is tracking perfectly at ~25 dB(A).
The Problem:Every time I hit "Record" in the SPL Logger, the driver/hardware initialization causes a massive digital "pop" or spike in the first 2 seconds. I assume this is the reason and not me making noise since my mouse clicks are almost silent (hitting record button).

Because of this initial pop, my peak trackers get "stuck" at their high-water marks right at the beginning of the session:
  • LZpeak (Red Line): Jumps to ~75+ dB and plateaus there for the entire 8 hours.
  • LAFMax (Yellow Line): Jumps to ~45+ dB and stays there.
(See attached screenshot of my graph showing the plateaued lines).

While I know I can use the "Graph Axis Limits" to visually crop out the first 2 minutes of the X-axis for presentation, this doesn't fix the underlying data lines. The peak lines remain flat at the top of the graph, making it impossible to see the actual LAFMax and LZpeak of the neighbor's slams that happen hours later (which usually hit around 50–55 dB).

My Question:Is there a way to delay the start of the actual data logging, or a way to have REW automatically "Clear" or reset the peak buffers 10 seconds after hitting record? Or is there some computer setting I need to make?

I know I can manually click "Clear" in the SPL meter window a few seconds after starting, but it's greyed out when use record using SPL Logger.

Thanks in advance for any insights!
