Did any of you guys use any of their recommendations? Any thoughts?

I used Dolby's giudelines to set up my first Atmos installation and found them to be very helpful. Things get a bit tricky when you have more than one row of seating, but it's a great starting point, especially if you're doing anything beyond 7.1. IMO, if your space allows optimal (or even close to optimal) speaker placement, it pays to take your time and do it right. Some of the lazy "surround sound" setups I see really make me scratch my head.

Thanks Peter for your thoughts. Glad to hear you were very satisfied with Dolby's recommendations. Good to have Dolby provide in depth placement directions especially for those who are new and need assistance. :)

If I am listening to music, then I will start with the Cardas recommended placement and build my theater speakers around those two, then I have the best of both worlds.

Cardas Room Setup Guide

I did use the Dolby recommended placement for the Atmos overhead speakers.

Thanks Sonnie for the link for Cardas. Wasn't aware of this one..
