I see there is a section for audio setup could we get a category for video as well?

It would be nice to have one, sounds like it would be right up Mechs alley if he's up to it. I don't know if ConnectedTed is a member here, but he is into calibration as well.

A couple of sticky's to cover the basics (like terminology and equipment/software, screens) and & they could open a thread from there.

I think it may come soon. :T

We definitely should have one... simple steps for any enthusiast to follow (at the most basic levels) are always helpful. I'm hoping we can fire-up some full featured articles that we can parade around social media. "Five Steps to a Better Television Picture"... that kind of thing. It would go a long way and would very simple to pull together.

This is indeed a good idea, although we do have AV System Setup and Support now. It is more for the basics of setting up all your equipment and does not really get into calibrating your system. Auto-EQ and Immersive Audio Codecs is geared more towards audio calibration and the various sound formats.

mech's new article on HDR needs a home. So what shall we name it?

Video Technologies?

Probably need "Calibration" in the title as well. That will also help with SEO.

Is "Technologies" a good term to link to video as "Codecs" is to audio? ... or should we use "Codecs"?

We will probably list it directly beneath: Auto-EQ and Immersive Audio Codecs

There is no "auto-eq" for video... but there is calibration. Video is not really "immersive" outside of 3D.

Video Calibration and Technologies
Video Calibration and Codecs

Technologies looks better.

I would just call it 'Video Calibration'. Short and sweet.

How about setting the tempo by posting a historic summary on where calibration came from, what influences the practice had on manufacturers, and how things have changed as tech went from crt to OLED? Begin with a clean slate and a new forum. I like to see discussions about biases even with stuff like "calibration" which many think is a technical term, yet it is more like an art, thank to the compromises a technician must always make.

Sounds like a great idea to me... we are still trying to hammer out a title for the forum.

How about 'Video Fidelity'.

Been gone all weekend to the cabin and a beautiful new LG 65" C7 showed up at my door today! :T Just now got it setup and am viewing it for the first time. I'll get a thread up on this soon.

I'm not sure mainstream American will know what we are referring to... also not sure if it will work for SEO.

Your original suggestion works: Video Calibration ... but we need to add something to it so that we are not copying HTS.

Sweet on the C7... :T

As Sonnie mentioned above, Video Calibration is on HTS so maybe something like "Video Fine Tuning and Calibration "

Display Calibration?

Hmmm... Video Display Calibration and....

So how do we incorporate discussion of HDR and WCG, etc? This forum will be more than just about calibration, as it will include discussion of the various "video codecs" if that is what they are called?

Display Technologies? And then maybe include this in the description: Discussion of video calibration and display advancements such as High Dynamic Range, Wide Color Gamut and Ultra High Definition.

If I do a search on "display technologies" within google, I get the below.

search.JPG

Not sure if this would be the correct terminology for screen tuning and configuration..:justdontknow:

A search on the below does get you a lot of references to what we are looking for..

video UHD / HDR / WCG display Tuning and Calibration

:reading:

Video Display Technology | Calibration

I think that might work there... but I think Technology should be Technologies since there are several.

With this description you wrote mech: Discussion of video calibration and display advancements such as High Dynamic Range, Wide Color Gamut and Ultra High Definition.

We'll run with that... change it later if we see the need.
