Hi!

Bought the MindiDSP 2x4 last week and started with the REW , but can't seem to get it right :

Measurement (12" vintage Goodmans Axiom 301 full range) :

When imported to MiniDSP :

As you can see this will (and does) sound terrible..

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks!

  • Your SPL axis span is huge, over 400 dB, best set that to something sensible. 60 dB is a good start, you can adjust it using the Levels button at the top right of the graph.
  • In the EQ window your target level is 22.4 dB, so you are telling REW to drag the entire response down by more than 30 dB. It is trying to oblige, but the result will be very bad
  • Applying EQ above the range where modal resonances dominate (above about 200 Hz) is nearly always a bad idea. An exception could be if you are making pseudo-anechoic measurements of the speaker's response and correcting flaws in it. There is a bit more about what EQ can and cannot do in the help.
MiniDSP have a note on applying EQ with REW.
