Regal Cinemas owner Cineworld Group has confirmed the temporary suspension of its U.S. and U.K operations starting Thursday, confirming reports that first emerged Saturday.

In a statement released Monday, the group said: “In response to an increasingly challenging theatrical landscape and sustained key market closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cineworld confirms that it will be temporarily suspending operations at all of its 536 Regal theatres in the U.S. and its 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse theaters in the U.K. from Thursday, 8 October 2020.”

Not surprising.. I don't know anybody going to the theaters now... Sad days for theaters that is for sure.

Really... theaters are all but doomed until we see a vaccine for the virus. Even then I'm not sure they can recoup, as there are a lot of movies that have been canceled and/or postponed. Then how long will it take to get new movie production back up to par? Who knows, right? What few we've seen produced are being released via streaming. I'm good with that, as I never go to the theater anyway, it's so much better at home. However, I respect those who prefer a theater and/or don't have the home theater. I know it's been good for home theater sales at AV and electronics stores, etc.

The trend currently is straight to dvd/streaming so I doubt also even with vaccine, if theaters will ever rebound. They are going to be like blockbuster..

I'm good with that, but sad for those who like to movie-going experience.

yeah, it is the end of an era..

I agree, I will be surprised if theaters return...they've lost too muh money being closed. Even when this pandemic is over...how. many people will be able to afford to go and spend the bucks it costs to go to a theater? Bring back $5 movies and they might hqve a chance,

I believe the tide has changed to streaming now.. People have adjusted..
