I would like to connect my universal player to my laptop. This is because I would like to use jriver with its fir filter to listen to music CDs. Can I use the HDMI output, which with an adapter cable connects to the USB on the PC? Thanks

There are USB to HDMI adapters available on Amazon but I dont know how good they are and from a quick glance are supported for PCs running Windows.

I don't believe you can go HDMI to USB, the adapter that @3dbinCanada is referencing only works USB to HDMI not the other way around unfortunately.

I think you'll need some kind of video capture device to go from the universal player to the laptop.

Something like this should work.

The OP just wants to extract audio from the HDMI connection.
