Looking for a receiver to put on my patio. Looking at denon. That's what I always buy.
I will be installing two polk in ceiling speakers but also have two other outdoor speakers. Why not install all four right?
I assume I would use the front left / right and side left / right connections on the receiver.

I was looking at the S540BT $279 but then I was curious about the S640H $379. They say you can control it with Alexa and a Heos App. ? Anyone know how that works? Does that require additional Heos equipment? Would I even benefit, does it still require an Alexa device or has the software built in?

I would likely place this in the enclosed ceiling above the patio.

Any advice please chime in.

You would have to purchase Alexa, but with HEOS you can control it with your mobile device (phone, tablet, etc). HEOS is nice is you plan on streaming Padora, XM/Sirius Radio, etc. Your mobile device acts as a limited remote, giving you control over the volume and music being played.

In most cases your remote will need line of sight to control the AVR, so not sure how installing it in an enclosed ceiling will work, but the HEOS is controlled thru your network, so as long as you have the AVR connected to the network, you'll have control over it throughout your home.

Couldn't you use the Denon App to control the receiver over your network?

Yes indeed... forgot about the Denon App... so enclosing it shouldn't pose an issue for control.

Any other options or suggestions for a smaller device. Smaller footprint than a regular receiver.
Requirements are:
Power 4 speakers
Bluetooth connection for mobile device (like streaming music from cell phone)
Able to accept minimum audio-in: Digital TosLink Optical Audio(fixed)

My project deadline is closing in quickly.....Only just over a week to complete it. This weekend Electrical will get started...wiring in ceiling of cover... Then I hope to get the ceiling put in and the sides of the ceiling closed up. Should have the granite countertop delivered Saturday also, just need the cutout made for the grill to drop in. Had to drop the original contractor as after 3 weeks didn't show for template.
Planning final connection of Grills to gas line for July 2nd....that evening family starts arriving from 3 states to visit for two weeks. Oh and Monday Dish comes to switch out my gear, they no showed last week when they were suppose to come.
