This is my subwoofer response after audyssey calibration. I am using a Denon X6500H with Definitive Technology BP 2002TL powered tower speakers. I am using the two 12 inch powered drivers on these towers as one subwoofer and a JBL MP418S as my second subwoofer. My question is how can I improve bass response. What should I do to make it more linear or flatter. Also what smoothing option should I use when examining bass response? In this graph I used no smoothing.

No smoothing is best for subwoofer graphs.

The advantage of having a subwoofer separate from main speakers is that the main speaker location best for imaging is typically not the best for low bass performance. It’s tough to get both from one location. I’d estimate that the subs in your mains aren’t “playing nice” with your subwoofer at its location, and that’s why you have all those nulls.

With this Def Tech speakers you probably not going to like this, but your best bet is to do the standard set-up with a crossover between subs and mains at 80 Hz or so.

Thanks I do agree with what you said. I like the sound better when I used the towers as surround speakers because that way the subs were near field and the sound was much more visceral. I need to purchase a real sub woofer but I cant make my mind as to which one to buy.
