(September 24, 2025) Five months past the release of its Px7 S3 over-ears (reviewed here), Britain's Bowers & Wilkins is using the early days of fall to officially unveil a new flagship wireless headphone: the Px8 S2 (Buy on Amazon). Designed to embody the company’s “True Sound” philosophy, the Px8 S2 is engineered for listeners who want reference-quality performance in a portable package, combining high-resolution playback, premium materials, and advanced features with everyday usability.
At its core, the Px8 S2 features a new high-performance DSP platform paired with discrete amplification and DACs, resulting in true 24-bit/96 kHz playback. That marks a notable step up from the previous Px8, which was limited to 24/48 resolution. Support now includes aptX Adaptive at 24/96 and aptX Lossless, ensuring compatibility with the latest high-resolution streaming services. And in a move to give owners ultimate control over the listening experience, the phones feature a redesigned five-band customizable EQ and updated “True Sound” tuning mode to fine-tune tonal balance while retaining Bowers & Wilkins’ signature voicing.
Bowers & Wilkins has opted to return to its top-end 40 mm Carbon Cone drivers, now housed in upgraded motor systems designed to deliver improved clarity, scale, and detail. An eight-microphone system powers the active noise cancellation, which has been refined for greater effectiveness while maintaining a natural and open presentation. Compared with the Px8, voice pickup has also been improved with more advanced beamforming microphones.
In terms of usability, the Px8 S2 brings Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and USB-C audio input supporting 24/96 playback. Battery life remains at 30 hours with noise cancellation engaged, and a 15-minute quick charge delivers an astonishing seven hours of additional use. A slightly lighter build, new exposed cabling details, and refreshed finishes in Onyx Black and Warm Stone distinguish the S2 visually from the Px8. A more compact case rounds out the updates, making it easier to carry.
Later this year, Px8 S2 will gain additional capabilities through firmware updates, including support for spatial audio playback and Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast. These updates will extend its feature set beyond traditional wireless headphones, keeping it competitive with both audiophile and mainstream offerings.
Available now through bowerswilkins.com and select retailers, the Px8 S2 launches at $799, reinforcing its place as the brand’s flagship wireless headphone and a showcase of Bowers & Wilkins’ latest thinking on portable audio.
