(December 22, 2025) Pro Audio Technology has announced a round of performance updates to several of its most widely specified loudspeakers. Rather than introducing new models, the company has focused on refining existing designs already in regular use in private screening rooms and high-end residential installations. Five loudspeakers now move to "Version 2" status, each incorporating driver and component changes alongside updated loudspeaker processing.

For more than two decades, PRO has focused on delivering cinema-scale dynamics and precision sound into private screening rooms and high-end residential installations, and the results are indisputable; PRO's take on audio is among the best in the business. Every loudspeaker is built to order in the United States, and every design lives inside a closed ecosystem that tightly integrates loudspeakers with DSP-amplified controllers. That approach allows PRO to revisit existing products and meaningfully improve them, rather than freezing designs in time.

The Version 2 updates touch a broad range of use cases. The LFC 24sm 24" subwoofer remains the company’s foundation for extreme low-frequency output, now benefiting from component refinements and updated processing. The SR 28212ai, a dual-12" full-range surround speaker with an internal subwoofer, moves forward with new driver technology and revised voicing. The S 12sm and its shallow depth sibling, the SR 12ai, receive similar treatment, as does the compact SR 8ai, a shallow 8" multi-use loudspeaker designed for installations where space is tight but performance expectations remain high.

A big part of what enables these updates is PRO’s investment in measurement and modeling. Loudspeakers are developed and optimized using advanced tools from companies like Klippel, Bruel and Kjaer, Audio Precision, and Loudsoft. At the company’s Orange County headquarters, PRO operates a Klippel Near Field Scanner, an acoustic measurement system that allows engineers to analyze loudspeaker behavior with extreme precision. Every Version 2 design has gone through that same process, ensuring changes are not just theoretical, but audible and repeatable.

One of the most notable updates arrives in the SR 28212ai v2. PRO has incorporated a Theory Audio Design 1.7" 16 ohm compression driver, a move that improves refinement while also helping reduce system noise floor in large installations where many high-efficiency speakers may be deployed. PRO says the result is a full-range loudspeaker with a bandwidth extending from 22 Hz to 23 kHz, delivered from a cabinet only 6" deep.

What makes these updates particularly compelling is how they are delivered. Because PRO loudspeakers rely on DSP voicing stored within Theory loudspeaker controllers, improvements don't stop at the factory. When new voicing updates are released, and no physical component changes are required, existing systems can receive those performance gains through firmware updates. In practical terms, that means PRO owners can see real improvements without replacing hardware.

All Version 2 models are available to order now through Pro Audio Technology’s dealer network. More information on the updated loudspeakers and PRO’s system approach can be found at proaudiotechnology.com.
