Please read the *Editor's Note at the end of this news update for current AXPONA information.
(February 29, 2020) On the heels of the High End Show's decision to cancel its 2020 event due to the coronavirus outbreak, organizers of AXPONA (Audio Expo North America) have announced their intention to operate AXPONA 2020 as planned from April 17-19 in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The coronavirus scare has dominated news feeds in recent weeks and carries rather heavy supply chain ramifications for the home theater industry as a whole. As of today, the World Health Organization says the outbreak has reached its “highest level” of risk, having been actively identified in at least 57 countries around the world. Here, in the United States, the CDC says the number of confirmed cases rests at 15 with the vast majority travel-related.

AXPONA’s organizers say the health and safety of attendees and exhibitors are paramount, and the event is taking every necessary step to ensure its following guidelines set forth by local health partners, the CDC, and the World Health Organization.

The event's official released statement reads as follows:

(February 28, 2020) - - AXPONA (Audio Expo North America) will take place as scheduled April 17-19 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center. As always, the health and safety of our customers is our number one priority. We are closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization’s statements regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and following guidelines from these agencies and the local health departments. We will be reinforcing recommended measures on-site regarding appropriate hygiene standards and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and local health authorities. We are working closely with each of our partners to ensure a successful, enjoyable and healthy experience for all manufacturers, dealers, distributors, audiophiles and music lovers alike. We have a record number of vendors signed up to exhibit and a record number of attendees registering every day to attend. We certainly appreciate anyone’s individual decision not to travel due to their own personal health concerns and we recommend that anyone who feels under the weather should remain at home. If you have any questions please contact our customer service team at 203-371-6322.

We will continue to post any additional updates on the website at www.axpona.com.

*Editor's Note: AXPONA has officially announced a delay to its show. When we first published the above information, AXPONA's planners told AV NIRVANA that both vendor and attendee communication expressed tremendous support for the show to take place in April. However, yesterday, we received word of a postponement until August 7-9 due to an "an outpouring of feedback from the AXPONA community over the last 72 hours."

The coronavirus outbreak within the United States remains a fluid and rapidly evolving situation, which is reflected by AXPONA's sudden change in plans. If you have any questions or concerns about the event, please visit axpona.com and click "Contact Us" on the bottom right corner of the homepage.

In North America, the corona virus is very low and hardly on the map with few isolated incidents (per the CDC, 15 cases so far) here and there so not much of a worry for North America at this point in time.

The flu, for example, is a much higher worry than anything else in North America.

From scientificamerican,

In the U.S. alone, the flu has already caused an estimated 19 million illnesses, 180,000 hospitalizations and 10,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I think it is a bad idea...We even have 2 cases in Mexico now. South Korea had one unknown case, and in a week they are over 1000 people. Italy is partially locked down now, the same as South Korea. The 2 cases in Mexico were from people who attended a Conference in Italy...so it is not necessarily just from China. California has over 6000 cases that they are not testing, but are quarantined...who really knows how many people have it, and are spreading it.

This virus will only get worse that is true. Hopefully, a vaccine will be produced soon to help fight it.

Yes it will most likely get worse...hopefully the vaccine will be made, and hopefully they can make enough. It will help if people are careful and do not gather in large venues, and conferences.

This was just sent by AXPONA organizers:

So, looking like it's STILL ON!

Folks going need to take precautions. :)

It would be interesting to hear what the attendance turns out to be.

I just saw this in another forum...cancellations are coming from the manufacturers apparently...read post 37.

Coronavirus Live Updates

Yes, now Aug 7-9th.

I just heard on a YouTube video that Axpona may have cancelled, but it actually was the Governor in the State that banned all Shows until further notice due to the Corona Virus.

Best to be safe.. Lot of folks are now getting affected by attending conferences, trade shows, etc.

Stay safe, everyone!
