Taking a page from Sony’s playbook, Paramount has released a wonderfully robust horror boxset this last week just in time for Halloween. Much like the Columbia Classics set, this is not just 5 films stuck inside of a slipcase or anything, but rather a VERY heavy rectangluar chipoard box, with new slip cases for each film, and some physical swag like stickers and pins and a Fangoria magazine layout of all 5 films to enjoy. It may not be AS intensely regal and full of massive amounts of swag, but this is a pretty special box set filled with some true classics, and some really good modern day horror films to round out the 5 films set to enjoy.

The Paramount Scares: Volume 1 set is hopefully one of many new 4K sets from Paramount. It may not be AS classy as the massive Sony Collections that have been released recently, but this is a NICE box set, complete with a Fangoria magazine with all 5 films included (for this release specifically), an amazing red and black chipboard case to house all 5 films, a set of stickers for each film, and a commemorative pin included as well, making this a rather robust and impressive set. Add in the fact that Paramount chose some really nice 4K upgrades to include (and the “secret” title that turned out to be the LONG requested Sweeney Todd) and this is one sweet looking set. I’m really hoping for more sets of this ilk, as Paramount has a fairly large and impressive array of horror movies that I really hope gets the 4K treatment. Solid two thumbs up from this reviewer.
