Optimizing the EQ function

Oops hit send too soon. I am using the "EQ" function on my main speakers and I have two questions on the basic setup for a stereo pair:

1) Should I process left main & right main separately, or process the average between them?

2) How about weighting? Any notes on that? Surely there's a best practice here?
