(May 9, 2017) Onkyo has announced three new members of its 2017 class of premium RZ Series AV Receivers. The TX-RZ820 (MSRP $1,399), TX-RZ720 ($1,099), and TX-RZ620 ($999) hit the market with incredibly temping price points, carry plenty of power, and ship loaded with modern immersive audio and 4K video technologies.

Audio processing across each receiver is handled by a 384 kHz/32-bit AK4458 Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) paired with various degrees of Onkyo’s proprietary VLSC filtering technology (which removes artifact noise created during the conversion process). All three receivers can decode Dolby Atmos and DTS:X out of the box, and support common legacy codecs such as DTS-HD MA. They also offer support for a wide range of Hi-Res audio files, including Direct DSD 11.2MHz, DSD 5.6MHz, Dolby TrueHD, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless (to 192kHz/24-bit resolution). Onboard streaming support for Pandora, TIDAL, Spotify, TuneIn, and Deezer is also included, all of which can be conveniently controlled by the Onkyo Controller App (iPad/iPhone/iPod and Android).

Owners can stream music to all three models via onboard Wi-Fi (5.2GHz/2.4GHz) and Bluetooth, but also have the option of using AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, and DTS’s powerful Play-Fi platform. In addition, FireConnect allows music to be streamed directly to Onkyo’s new NCP-302 wireless speaker.

The RZ820, RZ720, and RZ620 all feature 4K video technologies necessary to enjoy the very latest in UHD content. Offering a robust array of six HDMI 2.0 inputs, each receiver supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) in the form of Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), the BT.2020 color space, 4K/60p video, and HDCP 2.2. The RZ620 features an addition HDMI “Sub Output” for connection to a second TV or projector, while the RZ720 and RZ820 carry a Zone 2 HDMI output.

Both the RZ820 and RZ720 passed an exhaustive round of testing at THX laboratories, allowing them to claim THX Certified Select status for low-distortion performance at reference levels of volume. That adds a level of performance guarantee that not all receivers can claim.

The RZ620 outputs 100 Watts per channel (8 Ohms, 2 Channels Driven) while the RZ720 is capable of 110 Watts per channel. Both models apply VLSC to the front left and right channels (only) and have powered Zone 2 outputs. The RZ820 steps up power output to 130 Watts per channel, applies VLSC to all seven channels, and carries the capacity for two additional Zones. It also has an aluminum front panel, door, and volume control, 7.2 pre-outs, and a “Whole House Mode” for easy simultaneous multi-room playback.

The TX-RZ620, TX-RZ720, and TXRZ820 are scheduled to begin shipping in June 2017.

Very clean looking. Is it me or does it slightly resemble the Yamaha Aventage line?
