(July 11, 2017) Onkyo USA has unveiled a new Integrated Stereo Amplifier designed to deliver refined sound at a reasonably low price. The new A-9150 has an MSRP of $599 ($899 CAD) and should begin shipping soon.

The A-9150 sports a sleek classic look, highlighted by a thick black anodized aluminum faceplate and large center mounted aluminum volume control. Onkyo has provided users direct access to front mounted sound controls, such as bass, treble, and balance, in addition to an A/B speaker selection button, a head phone jack, and a knob-driven input selector.

Internally, the A-9150 features quite a few tech temptations, including a customized high-current transformer, large custom filter capacitors, and discrete output-stage transistors. Those components are said to drive an audio show highlighted by exceptional dynamics and a lively transient response. Overall, the A-9150 is capable of outputting 60 Watts per channel (4 Ohms, 20Hz-20kHZ, two channels driven).

One of the A-9150’s touted highlights is the use of Onkyo’s proprietary Discrete SpectraModule, which replaces more commonly used IC chips. This tech is capable of generating a class-leading 500 volts per microsecond slew rate for flat linearity up to megahertz bandwidth. That translates into sound reproduction that’s nuanced with defined details and accurate definition for a realistic soundstage.

The backside of the A-9150 carries eight speaker posts, stereo RCA pre-outs, and a range of inputs. Vinyl loving enthusiasts will appreciate the amp’s gold-plated MM/MC phono inputs (which lead to an independent phono circuit board with dedicated MM and MC equalizers and custom head amp), while those preferring the digital fare will appreciate optical and digital coax options.

Speaking of digital, the A-9150’s Digital-to-Analog conversion is run by AKM’s premium 768 kHz/32-bit AK4452 DAC paired with Onkyo’s proprietary DIDRC Filter Technology. Onkyo’s DIDRC was originally developed for its higher-end components, and functions by removing ultra-high frequency noise from a signal (which can alter the perceived character of audible frequencies).
