It’s been in place for a week so I’ve had only a short time spent with it.
It was purchased from Value Electronics and @Robert Zohn who performed a QC check and calibration before re-boxing it and shipping. It arrived via FedEx without issue. The outer straps secured it to the custom made pallet.
When the inner straps were removed the outer box could be lifted straight up and off (8’ ceiling required for 83” size
leaving the base packaging supporting the display in its upright position. Here, it’s not being supported by the sofa at all.
The one and only small suggestion I have is to reposition the open spaces on the base styrofoam so that the bottom mounting holes to attach a wall mount to are exposed, as the top holes are. This way the mount can be attached while still balanced in its packaging. Here the top screw is in, but the bottom receptacle covered.
My projector screen had been covering a window since installing it in 2007. There nothing there currently capable of supporting this 85lb display plus mounting hardware so I purchased a stand to put it on. This was the easy way out, but made the most sense since 1) the whole thing needs to be ripped out in August for that window to be replaced (along with all the others in the house) and 2) I may take that opportunity to relocate to another room in the house. Haven’t decided on that yet, and 3) I wanted flexibility to move it forward to maintain a viewing angle similar to the larger screen behind it.
This is the stand sitting in front of the screen.
And moved into place with the display on it. I’ve settled for the time being on having it a little closer to the front wall than originally intended because sound was better this way. The bottom of the display is a couple inches lower than the pj screen was. Viewing angle is 38° instead of the previous 40° and not too noticeable. For the next couple of months anyway, this is where it will stay.
And with the lights off (and no camera flash overexposing everything) and the display on. The takeaway from these shots is there is not a bar to be seen above or below the show. Just inky black surrounding the picture. Beyond that, my phone camera is not going to do the picture quality justice. What I can say is OLEDs never looked this good on display at the Best Buy. It’s pretty impressive.
