(February 4, 2026) Nakamichi is expanding its DRAGON soundbar ecosystem with a new single 12" subwoofer configuration (buy on Amazon), creating a lower-priced entry point into its flagship wireless home theater platform. The new variant maintains the same core 11.1.6-channel architecture as existing 12" DRAGON systems, but scales the bass section down to a single full-size subwoofer cabinet, reducing both physical footprint and overall system cost while preserving the platform’s plug-and-play design philosophy.
Until now, DRAGON buyers have chosen between dual 12" and quad 12" subwoofer packages. With the new single-sub configuration, Nakamichi is opening the door for buyers who want access to the DRAGON soundbar, surround speaker array, and processing platform without immediately crossing the $5,000 threshold. The single 12" system carries a $3,799 MSRP, and is currently being offered at a promotional price of $3,199, positioning it as the most accessible version of the DRAGON lineup to date.
Nakamichi's 12" sub design is a hefty little beast. Landing at 80lbs and measuring just 20.1" H x 16.9" W x 18.1" D, it features an active aluminum driver paired with a down-firing carbon passive radiator for extended low-frequency output. Factory specs claim output down to 19Hz, indicating it should be able to playback all audible content baked into music and movies.
Importantly, with today's announcement, the 12" DRAGON platform itself remains unchanged. Across all configurations, Nakamichi uses the same soundbar chassis, processing architecture, and wireless surround design, with only the subwoofer count varying between packages. The company says this approach allows bass capability to scale without altering tonal balance, spatial accuracy, or dynamic performance elsewhere in the system. Owners wanting to expand their system can add additional 12" subs down the road, currently listed at $1,499. That means buyers who start with the single-sub package can later expand into dual-sub territory without replacing the core system.
