My DIY Theater Room

This is my 3rd version of my home theater. The first 2 versions were open living room concepts.
After long talks and months of convincing my wife, She finally agreed into putting up a wall and closing up our back living room.
Our house has 2 living rooms, one in the front of the house and one in the back.
We first debated whether to use 1 of the 2 spare bedrooms as a theater room but they are located upstairs.
I really wanted the theater downstairs so it could be another room extension when we have family gatherings.
I wasn't worried so much for sound proofing the room but making it sound good inside the room. 95% of all movies and shows I watch with my wife.
I did 75% of all the work myself
I hired a drywall guy to texture walls and patch holes from my previous build
Hired a framer to build wall and frame in the door
Hired a painter to paint walls and ceilings
Hired an electrical to run 2 20amps plugs to my rack

My set up.
Room is 21’ x 17.6’ x 8’

LOVE it. If there's one thing I wish I was able to do in my room, it's adding the columns around the perimeter for the surrounds.

Love what you've done with the room. I'm hoping to have the new Seymour control system in house in the next few weeks to tie into my automation setup. The Lumagen will control it directly with a 'coming soon' firmware update (Lumagen is in the Seymour CEDIA room this year to show off the integration). There will also be a Home Assistant integration as well. I can't wait to get that automated so everything is truly "hit play and the room adapts". ALMOST there...

This is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to enclose my theater as well, but I don't think its in the cards. Such a fantastic space, you did a great job! I may have to show this to the wife so she can see how I want our basement to look. I don't do a good enough job describing it and she can't visualize it.

The Seymour control system gives you memory stop points also correct.
If it ties in with lumagen that would be a game changer. I wonder how that would work with changing aspect movies
I will be at CEDIA filming with youthman, I am pretty excited to check this out if available

I am fortunate we have a 2 living rooms sandwich in-between the kitchen
That's how I was able to sell closing in the room to the wife.

Sound Room 4 will have the masking system controlling a 4-way screen via direct communication with Lumagen. That's also where Chris Seymour and Evan Zerby of Seymour and Jim Peterson of Lumagen will be on hand answering questions. I'm guessing the best scenario for VAR films will be to lock the Lumagen auto-aspect so it doesn't change and doesn't trigger the masking system.

Tell Michael I said hello, I'm not making it to CEDIA next year.

Phew, @BennyS, you've outdone yourself, my friend! That is a gorgeous space!!! Just spent about 30 min. combing through your pictures. Lots of great detail in that space!

I think you made the right move putting it near the kitchen. You'd be surprised how often a family member doesn't want to go down into our basement level... they'd rather stay upstairs.

How's the sound transmission around your home?

While cooking I can play music and walk in and out.

Sound Transmission you mean containing the sound in the room LOL
It's definitely not sound proof LOL
I did no decoupling so you can hear the bass from all over the house but it's hard to make out words.
Inside the room sounds very clean with no rattling unlike my open living previous setup
Kids are gown just me and the wife sound leak is not an issue

If it's just you and your wife... that makes it perfect! Tho, even if the kids were still at home, it would take a ton of effort to decouple. Might not be worth it, to be honest.
