Mulling component speakers

I’m considering putting in some component speakers in my car (I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been sitting on a nice a/d/s/ set for over ten years).

The ideal place for the tweeter would be in the door sail panels (front corners), obviously. However, I’m concerned that the driver’s door tweeter so far up and so close to me would be distracting. Is that a legitimate concern? Should I ditch the a/d/s/ and go with some good coaxials instead? I believe the front door speakers are 5-1/4".

What vehicle is it Wayne?

Is the a/d/s set still in good shape?

2003 Town Car. The speakers are still in the box and have never been installed.

I think the issue will be timing, but it should still sound better than factory. I assume you have an amp? They won't do very well with factory power. If you are using factory power... go with the 5.25" or 5x7 or 6x8 (my pick) coaxial speakers with the highest sensitivity you can find. Something like the Infinity Reference 6x8 that are 93dB should do well in the doors.

Thanks for the ovservations, Sonnie. As many systems as you’ve had, if sail-panel tweeters were an issue I’m sure you’d have seen it.

I do have some amplifiers, some vintage Yamaha and Sounstreams. One or more of those will be going in too. All I gotta do is find an installer I can trust!

Sail panels work pretty well, one of my Ford trucks had them, although I had to modify the window air vents to make them work (cut down and reseal the vent housing). The biggest issue I had in the truck was timing, because they are so close, but in a Town Car, I'm thinking they would be farther away. If one of those amps has phase settings, you might could tinker with the phase some to help out.
