MiniDSP DDRC-88A / BM Rew Question

Hi,
I'm new to Rew and own a MiniDSP DDRC-88A / BM I've been using Dirac Live 3. I'd like to try Rew also. From my computer can I run the USB cable normally to the MiniDSP to generate tones and noise etc? Or do I need to run a cable directly from my computer's sound card to the amplifier? Attempting to use the USB to the MiniDSP I was unsuccessful in generating any kind of noise by which to measure with.

I use an HDMI cable from my laptop to an input on my processor and select that input. I don't believe there is a way to use the USB, but your processor needs to be in the loop anyway.
